The attached quadriptych came to me from a family friend. The caption reads "Works by an Afghan artist named Shamsia Hassani. If we circulate them, it will be as if granting her a voice together with all Afghan women, who are going through hell". Not much to add here, other than to voice my wish that President Biden and his counterparts in the EU and UK find it within themselves to offer all who worked alongside western forces and initiatives, not just their own citizens, a seat on a plane, a chance to build a life elsewhere.
Postscript Sept 10th: for Economist subscribers, this article on the connection between equal rights for women and national prosperity and stability is worth a read.
